Moseley Oak faced a struggling Burntwood side in an away fixture, where a win was much needed with some challenging fixtures ahead.
Oak opened the game with a strong start and put the home team under a lot of pressure. This continued pressure and immense ball carrying from JC Genade (clearly influenced by his home nation’s recent World Cup victory which we have all been reminded of…several times) resulted in a try for Oak by none other than JC.
Moseley eased off after this and let Burntwood back into the game, with the intensity that we started with clearly having dropped off. After Burntwood opened their scoring, making the game closer again, Rich Scott put some strong footwork on show and put Moseley Oak back in the lead with an unconverted try.
A momentary lapse in defence resulted in Burntwood scoring in the corner and taking the lead, putting them ahead by 13 points to 10
Moseley Oak opened up their backs more effectively than in previous games and a fly hack through from the centres resulted in a Moseley Oak try by David Barton who put downward pressure on the ball milliseconds before the Burntwood defender in the dead ball area taking the score to 13-15.
The game continued in a frustrating manner, with too many penalties being conceded at breakdowns, however Burntwood’s defence succumbed to Moseley Oak putting the ball wide with some good hands in the centres for David Barton to score his second on the wing taking the score to 13-20.
The remaining 15 minutes continued in the same frustrating manner, when Burntwood then put a wave of continuous slow balls through their forward pack to earn a late try under the posts, which when converted led the game to a draw at 20-20.
Final Score: Burntwood 20 – 20 Moseley Oak
Man of the Match: Harry Barnes
Dick of the Day: Jamie Constantine
Try Scorers: David Barton (2), JC Genade, Rich Scott
